Yes, the Ashton 18 and the Rochdale 9 are quite doable in a day - also see Andrew's report. Another reason for carrying on and doing the Nine at the end of the day rather than the next morning is that some of the pounds occasionally drain out overnight (especially id someone hasn't completely closed all the paddles) and you will have to let water down. The lock-in floating pontoon mooring above Lock 84 on the Rochdale has now gone, and if you moor any further away (e.g. Piccadilly Village) then it is just as far to walk to Chinatown as it is from Castlefield.
