You haven't mentioned Marple in your list. If I remember rightly, the sixteen locks total around 209ft, so on average they must be about 13ft rise - and they will probably vary by a few inches between locks so quite possibly they include the deepest narrow lock on the network. Regarding Tardebigge top lock, this has often been quoted as 14ft but this claim has equally often had doubts cast upon it - a suggestion is that the 14ft measured included the freeboard, not just the rise and fall. How deep is the one on the Sheffield Canal which replaced two earlier locks in the 1960s? Martin L
