Barry asked " what makes a toothbrush charger so different from the rest? "
Usually the toothbrush is charged by placing it in an electro-magnetic field (EMF) created within the charging base, there are no electrical connections between the two items as that would make the toothbrush unsafe in a damp environment. In order for the EMF to do it's work properly it requires a nice even constant sine wave and the modified square wave output of most non pure sinewave invertors is just not good enough.
