I received two warnings, from friends. One warned of an email
  with
the heading " Life is Beautiful" the other " Invitation". Both
  capable
of doing serious damage to files and hard drive. These warnings
were issued by Microsoft, Norton and McAfee. They all say they
  can't
deal with these viruses at the moment.

'Life is Beautiful' is a well-known hoax dating back to May 2002.
'Invitation' or 'Olympic Torch Virus' as it also known dates back to June
2006. Even
Microsoft, Norton and McAfee would have a solution by now.

The warnings were NOT issued by Microsoft, Norton or McAfee but by idiots
who think it is fun to overload email systems by getting innocent, but
helpful,
computer users to pass the emails on.

Before forwarding emails like this it is best to check with a site such as
  Hoaxbuster at _http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org_ (http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org) .
If
you want to put it on an email list, send it direct to the list owner who may
or may not want it clogging up his list.

Even without checking Hoaxbuster, there are always clues:

  - Microsoft, Norton, McAfee (or some other respected organisation) has no
  solution
  - "This is the worst virus ever produced"
  - "It causes untold damage to your system"
  - "Tell all your friends"

Hmmm, parallels with the panic over global warming, methinks! ;-)
