Because like you Steve he has a right to post messages to this list and I
have to say that it is you who is being personal not him.

You might not like his views on how economics really works but I do get the
impression that there are many in this group who feel it's only right and
proper that the taxpayer should subsidise the canals so that they can
continue with their lifestyle choice/hobby without paying the full cost. It
might be dressed up in preservation of history/enhancing the environment etc
but that's what it amounts to. Given some of the highest levels of taxation
in Western Europe taxpayers might start to question such largesse.
