Pasted from the IWA monthly bulletin:- Former British Waterways education officer John Butterly has been jailed for 14 months following his conviction for spending BW funds on property and services for himself. During 2003 to 2006 he spent £34,670 on luxury goods, designer clothes, watches, televisions, audio equipment and a fridge freezer, and had fitted new windows at his home. The purchases were made through a credit card provided by BW to buy items in the course of his duties. He was caught when a BW internal investigation was launched after an audit in 2006 showed he had made far more transactions than colleagues. It showed he had repeatedly given misleading summaries of items purchased, and amended invoices to make it look as though the goods had been for BW. A disciplinary meeting was held in February 2007, when he was dismissed. A financial confiscation hearing is due to be held in November under The Proceeds of Crime Act. Hmmm I wonder If I could get through £30k on my companys credit card before I was brought to book??? Three years between audits???A financial confiscation hearing in November that should give plenty of time to dispose/secrete the Proceeds of Crime ! John
