The thought of a Mini-GIG is so much fun. I remember reading about them the last time I was on the canal. I never got to go to one. Just got to read about them. Felt as if I knew some of the people at them. Jane The basin is embarassingly shallow (we had great difficulty getting alongside the pier adjacent to the lock) so the way to turn is to use a shaft on the bottom or ropes to the bank. This is what the working boaters would have done - see 'A Canal People'. The secret is to keep quiet and not shout at each other, so whatever happens looks to be what you intended! Up for a mini-GIG!
