I believe that isn't what it has decided.

AIUI, it will allow UK to continue to use certain imperial units for
certain functions only.  I think, for example, that the mile may
continue to be used in UK just for road distances.

Anyway, what would be the benefit for the waterways of going back to
such a cumbersome system?  

Apart from anything else, aren't most boats now built with materials
specified in SI units (e.g. bottom plates 2 m wide)?
