Quite.  There was that marvellous "Note for Americans and other alien life 
forms" in Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman's "Good Omens", with an explanation 
of the BRITONS' pre-decimal currency.  It ended with something along the 
lines of:

The British resisted decimal currency for a long time, because it was too 
complicated.
