Answering my own question (if anyone's interested) - Bridge 84A is the new bridge (designed to look old - I'm not sure why) that serves the Vale. There's no access to the canal at Five Ways station, but there are new steps down to the towpath at University station (and you can also get access at Somerset Road, bridge 84).
