Where I presume you then work yourself through the lock. Going up, the
lock worker starts the lock filling before getting on to the next
lock. By the time the lock is full, and the boat out, and gate shut
the next lock is ready anyway.

But not glued to the tiller, at least you share the lock work between
you - unlike some (most?).
