Having had a couple of circulation pumps fail, I considered a (24 V)
Bolin a few years ago. I even phoned the charming Ms Bolin in Sweden
about the product, and was told it had a very long expected working
life. So I bought one. It lasted less than two years, slightly worse
than the other pumps I had been using.

I then went to see Cleghorn Waring (which is near Stevenage, rather
than Stockholm), and had a long talk with one of its folk. He said
that small circulation pumps had mostly had shortish lives (about
2,000 hours) so far, but a new type of bearing was imminent which
should extend that substantially.

I therefore went back to a Johnson (forecast life 1,600 to 2,000
hours), and am on my third year with it (it may now be getting
slightly noisier, although I may be oversensitive to it). It cost
quite a bit less than the Bolin. I hope the new bearings have arrived
by the time I have to replace it. It (and most others, I think) now
drives the impeller magnetically, rather than by a shaft through the
housing, so it is much less likely to leak than its predecessor
models.

However, as I now have shore power again, I am thinking of putting in
(in parallel) an AC pump for when I'm at my home mooring, which is
most of the time the heating is on. They are much more durable.
