Not surprising, as there is no possibility of through traffic through
them because the rest of the S&W is narrow gauge.  Also, BW
discourages the use of the wide (not broad) locks except by craft
wider than a narrow boat, as their operation requires a considerable
amount of water and the supply to the basins is modest.  

But they work fine.
