Well, since you asked: Eller Beck at the bottom of the slope where our group of houses is situated has been up so high that it has over- topped the wall that they had to rebuild about 7 years ago when it was pushed over with the force of the last flood. The problem is where it tries to get under a restricted headroom bridge and later through a piped section underneath a local supermarket car park. The canal is now over the towpaths (most unusual that) as the Springs Branch is normally weired off into Eller Beck which runs alongside. In this case though Eller Beck is as high as the canal weir and the canal water has nowhere to go. The EA have supplied sand bags to the houses further down the slope from us but, when I last looked, it seems as though the level is now dropping. A development of houses (that we seriously looked at when choosing a house up here) has had their double-garages flooded.....boy, am I glad we didn't buy one of those now.........and the local supermarket has closed its doors (so I'm told). It looks as though things may not get worse as long as there isn't any more of the continuous heavy rain that we've had over the last few days. Depends on what happens in the hills that feed the beck, I guess. Roger
