On a slightly different tack I received a call on my mobile from
"Vodafone" to discuss my tariff. I put them off for a couple of hours
as I was driving up the A12 with a box trailer behind.
The chap rang back when I got home and told me that as a loyalty bonus
(I have been with them for years) I could have a new phone, or if happy
with my present phone then a cheque for £75. All I had to do was to
sign up for a further 12 months, this could be done on the phone with
them recording my message. When the recorder was on I asked the chap to
confirm he worked for Vodafone and he replied "no, premium something or
other" I told him goodbye and I would deal with Vodafone direct.
My guess is that if I had have agreed I would now by signed to another
provider on a different tariff.
