This is not a recent phenomenon. At least 15 years ago, I fell into 
conversation with some people who were looking at boats for sale. I asked 
them if they had done much boating and they said no, they had never been 
boating but were looking for a change from caravanning. I advised them that 
it would be a good idea to hire a boat first, but that may have fallen on 
deaf ears for all I know. Obviously caravanning and boating are the same, as 
it only means living in a very small space.
