Hi Richard, (Severely snipped) > You therefore obviously recognise that a true deep cycle battery would be better.
***** Yes but the price "hurts". > So, why did he not fit the alternator temperature sensor supplied with the unit? I assume that he did not as you say later you are going to fit one. ***** Although the PDAR was new (And never fitted), I bought it from a fellow boater, who had lost the sensor, hence it was never fitted! This will be recitified if/when I refit the PDAR. > What I said was "I suggest you check the the wire connected to the the Alternator brush pack is not trapped somewhere (between the Alternator and the controller) and shorting to ground". > > By this I mean, that you check that all of the circuit connected to > the the Alternator brush pack is not trapped somewhere BETWEEN THE > ALTERNATOR AND THE CONTROLLER and shorting to ground. ***** From the alternator, to the PDAR unit, a 7-core double covered cable, runs in flexible conduit securely clipped in position, seperate from the 70mm sq. heavy charge cables, which are in PVC box trunking. There are no cables exposed and I would be surprised if there were any short circuits within the "protected" cable runs. I did not "read" your original suggestion to check the wires from alternator to PDAR. The point has been noted though for any future check etc.. Thanks! there was nothing wrong with the 12-volt alternator. So what made you think it had failed? ***** The "red" LED indicator for "charging" did not illuminate on the Beta engine control panel. Also the voltage analog dial was showing 12.2 volts, (instead of the 14.2 when charging) so I "assumed" that the unit had stopped charging. I therefore took BOTH alternators off, for the rewind specialists to check, service, clean and repair/replace as necessary. I do not have the equipment, nor the expertize to do this myself. Whew! I think I have completed your "essay" of a reply! Not a critismm I may add. I welcomed all your comments and seggestions ~Allan~
