Fri Jun 13th - 27 miles, 5 furlongs, 6 locks - York to Ripon Total cruising time 8 hours 50 minutes.
Set off for Ripon at 9.15am. A large Tupperware boat was slowly overhauling me as I approached Linton lock. I fully expected him to race past and steal the lock from me but this is the Ouse not the Thames and they seem a bit more civilized up here. Through Linton lock by 11.45am, Boroughbridge by 2.25pm and onto the Ripon canal by 3.50pm. You expect the river locks to be big and heavy and potentially slow, but the ones on the Ripon canal are just as slow, taking nearly half an hour to work through a lock that is against you. Into Ripon Basin at 6.05pm and tied up on the visitor moorings after winding. Went to the "Water Rat" for some excellent Black Sheep and a bite to eat. Terry Streeter NB Arun - Ripon
