Total cruising time 8 hours 50 minutes.
Set off for Ripon at 9.15am. A large Tupperware boat was slowly
overhauling me as I approached Linton lock. I fully expected him to
race past and steal the lock from me but this is the Ouse not the Thames
and they seem a bit more civilized up here. Through Linton lock by
11.45am, Boroughbridge by 2.25pm and onto the Ripon canal by 3.50pm.
You expect the river locks to be big and heavy and potentially slow, but
the ones on the Ripon canal are just as slow, taking nearly half an hour
to work through a lock that is against you. Into Ripon Basin at 6.05pm
and tied up on the visitor moorings after winding. Went to the "Water
Rat" for some excellent Black Sheep and a bite to eat.

NB Arun - Ripon
Looking on the 2008 Great Britain Road Atlas here in the library, I'm trying to
see if Ripon is further north than Tewitfield which is, I believe, where the
Lancaster Canal currently runs to, with a view to eventually re-reach Kendal [&
then maybe on to Lake Windermere!!!] Unfortunately, Tewitfield doesn't show on
this map.
So Terry, are you further north or not? Do you, or anyone else on the list,
know for sure?
