You *may* be OK.... I assume the ones that flashed you were a standard
Gatso (white flash, normally taking *rear* number plate). Typically those
that flash oncoming traffic tend to be dummy cameras (main use for slowing
down the traffic), if a dummy they have no film, just a cheap sensor - the
cheap sensor will tend to flash at cars going in either direction, whereas a
true Gatso should only takes a picture as a car goes past it.
As for tolerance, they allow less than you expect. Typical tolerance is
5mph, where they start to flash - i.e 35 in 30 limit. At that speed one
would normally get (but not guaranteed) a caution. 6 to 9 miles above and
you might get offered a place in a speed awareness course (£80-90, plus a
day training and no points). 10mph to 20mph is £60 + 3 points, more than 20
is let the magistrate decide...
Note that *most* cars will read high on the speedo - somewhere around 5-7%
would be typical, so if you are doing "80", then you are only actually doing
about 74 - the allowable tolerance for a speedo is 0 to 10% (never
negative - many years ago it was -10% to +10%). The only easy way to check
the speed is with a GPS.
