Method for GU uphill with a single  boat is  touch the cill, gentle
tick-over, ground paddle on boat side up, this holds bow against lock wakk..


If boat isn't on the cill / rising board on the gate it WILL blow about

If ropes are needed, tie back using a stout centre or back-end line and put
the engine ahead - a bit quicker than tickover but not too much. This holds
the boat agianst the lock wall and ensures you can get it back if it strays.

Really brave souls enter the lock at full chat and  have their crew draw a
full ground paddle to stop them and help the gate shut - If the timing is
wrong, one smites the cill and seriously rattles the hanging-up plates in
the cabin
