9 am , the sun was shining and a boat had just come up the flight. I
started the engine but before I had time to drop off the ropes a boat
slid past and took the lock, so that set us back 10 minuets which was
time for the rain to start. After this we met a boat at every lock so the
trip went quite easy but maybe not as fast as if there is no one about.
We turned left at Napton Junction up the Grand Union and pulled over at
Calcutt locks for water, we were almost full when a pair of boats came up
the locks setting them ready for us to go down. The first 4 locks at
Stockton were ready for us and then we met two single boats coming up
just 1 lock apart, why the first didn't wait I don't know. From here on
the weather improved and we kept meeting the odd boat with all the locks
with us until we got down to Fosse bottom when the traffic rate increased
dramatically as obviously Kate Boats at Warwick had set all their hires lose,
again, just one at a time, why they don't encourage them to leave in
pairs I don't know. Just minutes before we moored at 6 pm opposite
Radford Semele church it started raining heavily once more. Since we
were this way last Radford Semele church has suffered a bad fire and is
now cocooned in scaffolding and plastic sheeting, hopefully being
repaired.
