Hi Folks, We are finally off on our hols. I'm not going to do a really detailed log this year (not even a video!), but so far:
We spent the night at Hull Bridge after cruising down at high speed in the dark on Friday night. We then left at 6:45am to catch the tide, high water Hull at 12:00, aiming to get on the River Humber at 9am. There was very little water in the River Hull since it was neaps, and little water coming down the river, but within 100m of Stoneferry it was running down, and by the time we reached the bridges it was running in (well rising anyway). Dad had replaced the front windows with some new ones, but not fully bolted them in, and had released that he had left the bolts in his car, so we had to get Mum to bring them down the steps on the pier. We know it would be choppy on the Humber with a South 4, becoming 5-7 later, and we needed the windows watertight. The Humber was bad, but only in the faster water flow. We stayed near the edges (all the way up, and on the Trent also) to keep out of the waves. A RMS Coaster was heading upstream, but was going slow, and while it caught us up at the flats (near Trent Falls) decided not to overtake us. Some of the waves on the Trent were larger than the Humber, infact some waves were over a good 3 foot in height in the middle, which passed us like hungry monsters in a mood. Because of the wind, and the rain we decided to pull into Stockwith, and eventually we reached the lock, and after a bit of problems with a strong side wind reversed into the moorings. We both had a little snooze during the Afternoon, and eventually hunger caused us to find some food. Dad nearly biked up to the chip shop in Misterton, but we decided to try the pub (since we had chips yesterday). I had a nice lasagna, and Dad had steak and Ale pie. It was really quite - the landlord said it was the quietest he's since on Saturday for a long while. Either the weather, Olympics, or just the time of year/month - saving money for holidays etc... Onwards and upwards tomorrow, hopefully a little more drier. Cheers, Mike -- Michael Askin http://shoestring_DOT_zapto_DOT_org/ -- Michael Askin http://shoestring_DOT_zapto_DOT_org/
