Maybe it's my imagination, but there seems to be a much higher proportion of furriners (i.e. from north of Watford, according to their livery) boating to Hertford this year (yes, yes, Lee not Stort). Nice to see, although a surprising proportion of them misses the turn into Hertford lower lock cut, and has to do some embarrassing reversing. To be fair, someone (no, it was *not* I) has nicked the "Navigation" arrow that a two-man BW crew took a whole day to install a few years ago. But even so ... How about a wave, folks (manual, not maritime)? Even odder, those that do go upstream often return about 1.5 hours later. Didn't you stop at Hertford, but just wind at the head of navigation? Foolish. It is a rather nice little town. The Old Cross Tavern on St Andrew St., a short stroll form the h of n, can be recommended. Or the, er, slightly less recently redecorated White Horse on Castle St. There's even a Wetherspoon's now, with free wifi. What more could you want? Adrian Barge "Onx" . Adrian Stott 07956-299966
