The canal is now open. My local correspondant said the pusher tug was in 
gear, holding the flat against the bottom gates. Quick thinking locals got 
the tug driver back on board in time to release the straps and thus save the 
tug from being dragged under!
BW/L&W (the 2 seem indistinguisable around this neck of the woods) righted 
the flat + excavator last night, by the tried and trusted Brian Goggin 
method. 8 pumps, plastic sheet + plywood and bags of sand round the gunwales
