What on earth is this Laurence? You're not a corporate identity; it's futile
issuing faux press releases as if this gives them some sort of credibility.

Says who? You? Well SAY it's you then. Source what your saying. And let us
know what your opinion is unless you're ashamed of it. Or maybe you're
putting it like this to make yourself seem more iimportant than the rest of
us.

>
> THOSE narrow lock bollards, which British Waterways' Simon Salem,
> Marketing & Customer Service Director admits cost £1.75 millions were
> backed by suspect Risk Assessment.

'Backed by suspect risk assessment'? What in the name of heaven does that
mean? And who did Simon Salem say it to? You? If you don't tell us, what
you're saying's meaningless information.

> It was at the Inland Waterways Association National Festival, Simon

> installation of lockside bollards on narrow locks.

Who did he say it to? And WHAT did he say? Can we have a quote please. From
someone with enough experience (and possibly even enough shorthand) for us
to believe it's true.

Photo? So this IS a press release? Who from? And who to? And why have you
posted it here? And should I start to post every waterways press release I
write here too without any explanation of what it is.

'We' have had sight. Who is we? I might as well write, 'We have had sight of
the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.' And what's with the passive, 'it was
stated' ? Who stated what Laurence? For God's sake, do us the courtesy of
being clear when you make these assertions or else we might think that in
not being clear, you really haven't got anything worthwhile to say.
Actually, personally, , having got this far with this rubbish, precisely
what I AM beginning to think.

"Poured scorn
Every columnist in narrowboatworld and countless other correspondents
poured scorn on the installation of those bollards, pointing out
their danger with inexperienced boaters tying to them and risking
being hung-up. Others pointed out that with the lack of grass mowing,
they would soon become an unseen tripping hazard.

But most of all related that they were absolutely pointless in a
narrow lock, with a rope down at such an angle quite unable to stop
movement of boats in deep narrow locks, yet which was another of the
reasons for installing them.

It is our columnist David Hymers, who today also reveals that there
was no consultation whatsoever about their installation, it being a
decision taken by British Waterways directors alone."

'Your columnist David Hymers? What is the column? What is the publication?
Who is this guy Hymers? Has he any experience of boats or canals or anything
that makes me think what he says is credible?

Says who?

Your opinion again. Laurence? Or Mr Hymers'? Or the publication for which he
works, whatever that is?

Really, this is the worst type of pretend journalism I've ever seen on this
list and the sort of stuff that gets the net a bad name. Regardless of what
you think about the substantive issue don't you think you should have the
good manners to write to us in a way that makes sense, and is not just some
throwaway bit of old tat that you, or someone, has obviously used
elsewhere?

Steve
