So unless most of them boats were stopping in the pound above, and the
flow around the bywashes wasn't fast enough to refill that pound
(which is also quite long IIRC), it just goes to show how much BW
operatives (can't really call them lock keepers any more) know about
the canal they are supposedly operating!

Not that it's anything new, it's been quite awhile since BW staff
actually know one end of a canal from the other.

Why didn't they just let some more water into the top lock (as it was
emptying) to give more water down the staircase! He should have known
better, and should be sent on a lock operating course!
