There's a serious point here. With unemployment pretty certain to go above two million and possibly as high as three - according to the gloomiest commentators - there may be a revival of the kind of schemes that in previous recessions provided workforces for canal restoration. >From hedge fund to hedge laying perhaps. -- Nigel Stanley
