Careful Barry, you're beginning to sound a bit like Adrian with this 
wide beam / broad beam definitions business.
Anyway, I'm not certain, but think you may be wrong with 7ft as the 
*maximum* width of a narrowboat.  I have a vague recollection of reading 
somewhere that some working narrowboats were built to 7'0.5" gauge?
