Boat Drain

6" OS maps of Ireland, made around 1830, 

It did, on maps covering several different counties. (Unfortunately I
can't show you a copy because it would cost me EUR30 (that's about
STG5000, I think) to buy a copy of a section of the relevant sheet.)

The Boat Drains seemed to lead off larger bodies of water (that might
well have been navigable, at least by small boats) and to lead
straight inland, but for only short distances.
