Further to our discussions about Webastos a while back: I was looking
at the web page for Alde's new boiler, the compact one. Its
consumption still makes it much more expensive to run than a diesel
heater, (405 g/hr of propane at full chat), but they've added one of
those neat ideas that makes you think "Why doesn't everybody do that?'
It's a little heat exchanger between the engine coolant and the
central heating circuit, so that waste engine heat can be used to
boost the cabin heating, just as it's used to boost DHW in the
calorifier. I'm currently sat sitting on Tixall Wide, and in a bit
I'm going to run the engine to charge batteries, and I'll take a
shower whilst it's on. But I'll also have to run the Eberspach to
heat the back end of the boat. With one of these fitted, I probably
wouldn't need to do that, just run a circulating pump to move the 85
C water through the rads.
Any reason why such a unit couldn't be fitted into any CH system?
Presumably it would also provide a bit of extra cooling effect when
thrashing up a river, if the skin tank begins to struggle.
All the best
Bruce
There are no strangers on the cut, only boaters we've yet to meet.
