There was a set of photos of a dayboatman on the B&F using lines to do all sort 
of stuff with the gates if anyone knows where this set is they might be of 
interest.

Not unusual, I understand, in days of yore for working boatmen and women to
object, sometimes violently, to be photographed

Unfortunately, it is (or I should say was back when I was mucking around
with working boats at any rate) somewhat frowned upon 'cos if anything goes
wrong it's potentially possible to bend the bottom gate handrails.

BW at one point in time were merrily grinding off the holding back pins on
the top gate pivot casting as well! Hopefully not any more

It's fairly easy with a bit of practice although it's one of those
'advanced' techniques that can make you look a complete wally when it goes
wrong!
