Our local from Tamworth days closed soon after we left, the landlord going
bust (no comments pleased - though actually I think it might be that Church
and Pub had a symbiotic relationship, even to the extent of lending crockery
etc for big "after funeral" stuff)
I think the big things that have affected the pub trade have already been
cited: but I would add also the zero tolerance of drinking and driving. No,
that's not a bad thing, but I think that for country pubs that depend on a
non drinking driver, this has been yet another nail in the coffin
