When Barry started to have his most recent problems, I started using
yahoo mail (the same web based mail provider that Barry uses) to
receive my mails from canals-list. None of my last 250 mails from the
list have found their way into the Spam folder.

Barry (or anybody else who uses yahoo mail) should, if they receive
non-spam mail in their Spam folder, mark it as Not Spam. This acts in
similar fashion to the 'white list' already mentioned and will lead to
future such mail being sent to the Inbox rather than the Spam folder.
This is fully explained on the site.
