Thanks for suggesting Netlimiter. I was aware that the BBC iPlayer used file-sharing, so I had already disabled it from starting up, but Netlimiter has shown me that it is still operational and using some bandwidth. I now realise that the only reason it had gone quiet was that I haven't used it for some time so there aren't any TV programmes on my hard drive for it to share. Looks like I'll have to uninstall it completely. A pity - it would have been nice to be able to download several programmes via unlimited broadband at home before going away boating, but not if it eats data and wastes 3G bandwidth for everyone.
