Hi Chris
We have a cross-bed on narrowboat Epiphany.
The mattress (from the Edwardian Bedding Co) is in two sections: the bottom 
section is 2 foot and the top is 3ft 11in long - a total of 5'11". Importantly 
it is 5 ft wide. I am 6'5" tall, and because I sleep slightly diagonally, or in 
a foetal position, I find it very comfortable. So does Fiona, though she is not 
so tall. The latter fact helps, I suppose!
So it depends on your sleeping habits really.
