Things never go quite as smoothly as we hope, do they?

I collected the dismantled water pump on Monday, only to discover that
one of the bearings supporting the impeller shaft had seized solid. The
impeller shaft (gear driven from the crankshaft) has been forcing the
inner race round and it is now in a very sorry state. This probably
explains why the graphite seals were leaking. So far I have been unable
to extract the knackered bearing from the housing or to identify quite
what it is so that a replacement can be obtained. Pete Thompson (Marine
Engine Services) is unavailable before Thursday, but I'll be hot-footing
it down there as soon as he's back and hopefully he will have (or at
least be able to identify the type of) a replacement bearing.
