Some hire boat companies used to advise their clients that they must not boat
after 19-00hrs, on several occasion whist boating late in the evening I was
hailed by hire boat skippers that I was not not allowed to boat after the said
hour.I think some fishermen picked up on this and copied the hire boaters. If
told by a fisherman that you must not boat after a certain time slow down stop
and go astern saying to them that you could not hear what they were saying over
the engine noise! They will think twice about telling the next boater.A dear
departed boating friend when told by a fisherman that he was going too fast in
his narrowboat, that due to its design had minimal wash, would shout back "what
do mean going too fast I only have one engine running" leaving a bemused
fisherman to think that over. CKP
