That is indeed a very worrying happening and shouldn't have cut the engine or 
started it up again without your intervention (Can you remember if you had your 
foot on the footbrake at the time of the restart?). The normal fault reaction 
is, at worst, to put you into limp home to allow you to drive slowly to a place 
of safety (or home if suitable). Unless you've got a more modern type of eco 
stop-start (which I don't remember having been launched on the XF, but I may be 
wrong) I can't see why the engine would restart itself. I also struggle to 
understand why a faulty park brake sensor would cut the engine unless they've 
programmed the engine to cut if someone applies the handbrake (electrical 
actuation I presume?) during forward motion.
I'm still in contact with some of my colleagues at Jags so, if the problem is 
still present, I could ask their advice/comments on your behalf. Unfortunately 
the team that I used to lead will have disbanded and moved onto other projects 
now so I have no direct line of enquiry.
