hey must be long if they are Slough arm-length!
PS I'm afraid that's what happens when people just talk pessimistically 
bout stretches of canal - people don't use them, they go into disrepair 
nd before you know it they have a stoppage which turns into effective 
losure

It's a problem we have on the Chelmer & Blackwater. There's plenty of boats on 
the moorings but it seems as though 90%+ never actually move on the Navigation.
The result is that there is a lot of weed growth which moving boats could keep 
down just by propeller action. The result is that Navigation staff have to make 
special trips using the weed-cutter. Unfortunately (in the middle of the 
growing season) the weed-cutter malfunctioned yesterday . .
