I suppose this could be one of those cases where the longer the redevelopment 
takes, the more time it gives you to get some 'easy' restoration done 
elsewhere, and therefore the better chance there is of the regeneration scheme 
accommodating (or hopefully facilitating) the restoration.

There was a similar case on the Wey & Arun - a main road which cut the canal 
was due for widening: if it had been done when originally proposed in 1982 it 
almost certainly woudln't have made any provision for restoration so it was a 
good thing that it was repeatedly shelved; 28 years later we'd actually quite 
like it to happen as if it does it will undoubtedly provide for full navigation 
and get rid of a significant blockage.
