Trying to download and install a .tar.gz for Flash isn't a good idea on
Ubuntu since it's easier just to use Software Center.

I'm not really able to help you very much with this. Perhaps try
uninstalling Flash and reinstalling it. Firefox will need to be
restarted afterwards. Alternatively, you could try installing the
Chromium web browser.
