For 64bit systems read this: http://blogs.adobe.com/acroread/2007/09/17/adobe_reader_811_faqs/ The 32bit versions of required libraries have to be installed to solve the problem. Actually, I did not try it. Does someone have an idea how to easily install those 32bit libs on 64bit ubuntu?
