Hy Matt,

There is a debian's bug that sounds like your problem.

Try to put in your system path the gems path.

I changed '/etc/profile' file for this:

  PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/var/lib/gems/1.8/bin"

I think this is gonna solve the problem.

There is a debian package of  libopenssl-ruby.

Did you try to install this debian package?
