On your second point, however, Id like to add that the .net framework
is not required. if you install the proper vc++ redist libs, it will
work. however, it requires that version as well as service pack match.
since the initial version of capture, this has changed often, but the
readme of the client should describe exactly what version is needed.

One can check Event Viewer ->system section for more information
about the error. In my case I got following messages:
1) Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT could not be found...etc
2) Resolve Partial Assembly failed for Microsoft.VC80.CRT...etc
3) Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files
\CrystalControl2\cc2_service.exe.
