Certainly not by me; perhaps by the View: open <file>.dvi.

As I said before, this is my question converted into an imperative form. 
And I wrote how I (temporarily) solved this and how other people did it. 
If you have a better, constructive solution, it would be greatly 
appreciated; unfortunately, I fail seeing such in your orders.
