"Hold down Opt (otherwise called Alt - between <Ctrl> and <Apple>) and click the trackpad button"? I've tried this to no avail. The only modifier key combinations that do anything are <Ctrl>+<Trackpad button>, which brings up the buffer menu. <Shift>+<Trackpad button>, which brings up a face menu.
