Lists are linked cons cells... (x . nil) is the same as (x). (x nil) would be different from (x), because it expands to (x (nil . nil)) ! Oh, and this font-different-in-second-frame bug is known, it was due to a patch that has since been backed out, which is why latest Aquamacs CVS builds don't have that problem. I was surprised to hear it's in the recent Carbon Emacs.
