Hi Tim,

I am not familiar with the HIS you have but I have migrated databases using 1/4 inch mag tape. Old mag tape drives are famously unreliable. Be sure to use the newest tapes you can get and clean clean clean your tape drive heads and guides. I suspect your target machine will not be able to read your legacy database format so you can export/spool/compress your data to CSV/SQL files on the legacy disk drive. (If you export/spool/compress directly to tape you will be more at the mercy of a fickle tape drive.) If the HIS database is transparent, you could do the database conversion on the target computer.

If the tape drive fails you, consider serial interface file transfer. (yuck)
