Hi Wilfried, Sorry - been running around the country interviewing for positions for September. That is finally wrapped up tho now I have to move...
I think the rfid is a great idea (sorry I missed your earlier efforts) - for one thing it could take the place of a nurses notes that they visited the patient if the system is designed in such a way that it records the proximity of the patient rfid and the nurses/mds/NPs and other professionals rfids. A concern however would come in the area of sensitivity to the location of the rfid and using the rfid for an automatic logon which could reduce some of the problems of tedium and time of having screens located at bedside. can the rfid systems distinguish between standing by the screen and just walking into a room? the emphasis being on preventing unauthorized access while minimizing any actions required to specifically enable data entry or pickup. now i don't know what the situation is with bar codes where you are but the failure rate in grocery stores here in the states is extremely low even given the somewhat lackadaisical attitude of many cashiers - is it possible that the barcode scanners you are using are just not high enough quality for these tasks? I have always imagined that vital signs data entry might be facilitated with barcodes or that we could develop an easy to remember shorthand for patient assessments that would make data entry far less cumbersome - certainly doing an optical scanning form would be easier - the problem is how quickly would the form be read - here in many places that would be long after clinical utility had passed... bear --- Wilfried Goedert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hello bear, > > i totally agree your ideas that the patient needs the highest > attentionship and not the computer or PDA. > > So RFID is a suggestion i try to discuss since last autum. > I didn't saw in the whole discussion since more than a year any > analysis of different possibilities of proprietary or open source > systems.
